KATHMANDU: The newly formed Nepali Communist Party has officially submitted an application to the Election Commission for party registration.

The party, established through the unification of ten leftist forces and groups, filed its application on Thursday — a day after publicly announcing the formation of the unified front.

This new political entity has emerged from the merger of several prominent left-leaning organizations, including the former CPN (Maoist Centre) and CPN (Unified Socialist), alongside eight other smaller parties and groups.

With the intention of presenting itself as a consolidated left alternative ahead of the upcoming general election, the party has decided on the five-pointed star as its official election symbol.

According to the Election Commission, the party submitted its registration documents along with a joint declaration and a written commitment of unity among the member organizations.

The move comes as the government prepares for the upcoming House of Representatives election, scheduled for March 5, 2026.

The Election Commission has also reminded all political parties intending to contest the election that they must complete the registration process and obtain an official party certificate by November 15, 2025.

The swift registration of the newly formed Nepal Communist Party signals a significant realignment within Nepal’s leftist political sphere, setting the stage for a potentially transformative contest in the next general election.
