KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has stressed that the party’s 15th General Convention must be held by mid-January 2026 if it cannot be organized within December 2025.
Speaking at an informal meeting with district presidents and former district presidents in Kathmandu on Friday, Koirala said the party should enter the next general elections under a new and dynamic leadership.
He urged that the General Convention schedule be aligned carefully so that it does not conflict with the Election Commission’s electoral calendar.
Emphasizing unity and reconciliation within the party, Koirala said he seeks to end factionalism and divisions that have weakened the Nepali Congress over the years.
“I want unity and harmony in the party. We must move forward without bias or prejudice toward anyone,” he said.
Presenting his detailed views during the discussion, Koirala reiterated that he has long been advocating for the timely completion of the General Convention by December 2025, or at the latest by mid-January 2026.
He argued that the Nepali Congress must become united, serious, responsible, and disciplined, placing the nation, people, and democracy above all other interests.
