KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma has said that the main question before the party now is whether or not to hold the Special General Convention, which has been formally demanded by 54 percent of the convention representatives.

Through a post on social media Facebook today, Sharma stated that the demand for a special general convention can only be addressed either by organizing the convention itself or by holding the regular general convention within the same timeframe. He emphasized that this issue must be understood clearly and straightforwardly, without any “ifs” or “buts.

Sharma further mentioned that although the party’s statute does not restrict holding a regular general convention in the months of December, next January, or next May—or even before or after those months—it explicitly directs that a special general convention must be completed within 90 days of receiving the signatures of support.

He added that the Nepali Congress has many important tasks to do not only for its own existence but also for the sake of the country, and therefore it is essential to take the matter seriously.

Sharma also clarified that since the Central Committee meeting is still underway, a decision will be reached within a few days with unity and maturity.
