Vyas Municipality to host Manung–Pulimrang Ultra Marathon on Martyrs’ Day

TANAHU: Vyas Municipality in Tanahu has decided to organise an ultra-marathon on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day, which will be observed later this month.

According to the local government, the Manung–Pulimrang Ultra Marathon will be held on January 30.

The event aims to promote the identity of Manungkot and Pulimrang which are Magar and Gurung settlements respectively through sports, while also promoting sports tourism in the area, said Chief Administrative Officer Sukadev Lamsal.

The 44-kilometre race will pass through six wards, starting from Manung in Vyas Municipality-5 and concluding at Vyas Municipality-8.

Mayor Baikunta Neupane said the annual event has contributed to the development of the two villages and aims to highlight their tourism and cultural heritage.

Pulimrang is also known as a martyrs’ land and features statues of six martyrs: Bharat Gurung, Shamser Bahadur Gurung, Laldhwaj Gurung, Dharmadhaj Gurung, Sarbasingh Gurung, and Hastabir Gurung.
