KATHMANDU: Roshni Meche has been elected to the National Assembly from Koshi Province in the women’s category.
Meche secured her victory as a candidate from the alliance between the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML). Earlier, Sunil Thapa of the Nepali Congress was elected unopposed in the “others” category.
The vote counting for the Dalit category is currently underway. Som Portel of CPN (UML), representing the alliance, and Khem Sundas from the Nepali Communist Party are competing for the seat.
In the National Assembly member election held in Koshi Province, at least 14 representatives did not participate in the voting process. During the polling completed in Biratnagar today, some five Provincial Assembly members and nine local-level officials abstained from voting.
According to the National Assembly Election Office, the total number of eligible voters in Koshi Province was 359, consisting of 92 Provincial Assembly members and 267 local-level officials.
Information Officer Hem Bahadur Budhathoki stated that only 87 Provincial Assembly members and 258 local-level officials cast their votes.
