KATHMANDU: The ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has successfully conducted its historic district conventions across the country, electing new leadership as part of its transition from ad-hoc structures into fully democratic, legally recognized bodies.
In the recently concluded internal elections, Om Nath Bhandari was elected District President of Jhapa with 341 votes, leading a newly formed executive committee that includes Vice-President Pushpa Lal Dhakal, Secretary Birodh Subedi, and Joint-Secretary Bhim Bahadur Kunwar.
Meanwhile, in Kathmandu, Raja Shakya secured the presidency with 251 votes, alongside newly elected Vice-President Rabindra Gautam, Secretary Santaman Maharjan, and Joint-Secretary Saurabh Basnet.
The convention in Sunsari saw Sagar Dahal claim the presidency with 142 votes, supported by Vice-President Rajesh Man Shrestha, while Raja Ram Kumar Mehta and Yogendra Giri were unanimously selected as Secretary and Joint-Secretary, respectively.
Additionally, in Humla, Laxman Aidi was unanimously elected to lead a brand new nine-member district executive committee, which includes Vice-President Rinjen Lama, Secretary Manoj Bahera, Joint-Secretary Tirtharaj Budha, and Treasurer Kaman Shahi.
According to Bhuvan KC, the Chief of RSP’s Central Election Commission, the party completed conventions in 38 districts on Saturday and actively moved forward with conventions in 28 more districts on Sunday, covering all seven provinces.
To ensure a fair and clean electoral process, a three-member election committee was mobilized in each participating district. The party has scheduled the Bara district convention for June 8.
RSP intends to wrap up leadership selections in 67 out of 77 districts before its highly anticipated First General Convention, which is set to take place in Chitwan from June 21 to 23, while the remaining 10 district conventions will be completed afterward.
