Nepal eliminated from ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier at group stage

KATHMANDU: Nepal have been eliminated from the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier after exiting at the group stage of the tournament being played at home. Their campaign ended with a defeat against Scotland in the final group-stage match at the TU Cricket Ground.

Chasing a target of 141 runs, Nepal were bundled out for just 68 runs. Roma Thapa and Bindu Rawal were the joint top scorers with 14 runs each, while Rubina Chhetri contributed 10. The rest of the batting line-up failed to reach double figures, and captain Indu Barma was forced to retire hurt. Scotland’s Abtaha Maqsood starred with the ball, taking three wickets.

Earlier, Scotland, who batted first after winning the toss, were bowled out for 140 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Priyanaz Chatterjee led the scoring with an unbeaten 45 off 28 balls, smashing seven fours.

For Nepal, Manisha Upadhyay claimed four wickets, while Rubina Chhetri took three. Riya Sharma, Sita Rana Magar and Kabita Joshi picked up one wicket each.

Nepal finished the group stage with just one win. The Netherlands, Scotland and Thailand advanced to the Super Six stage from the group, while Nepal and Zimbabwe ended their campaigns in fourth and fifth positions respectively.
