WASHINGTON: A fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran came under renewed pressure after both sides carried out fresh military actions across the Gulf region.
The US military’s United States Central Command said it intercepted four Iranian attack drones heading toward the Strait of Hormuz and later struck Iranian coastal radar installations in southern Iran.
Tehran responded by launching missiles toward US military facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain. US officials reported intercepting six of the seven missiles.
The escalation follows recent clashes that threatened an April ceasefire. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said its actions were retaliation for US strikes on Iranian targets, while Washington accused Tehran of attacking civilian infrastructure, including Kuwait’s international airport.
Both sides continue to exchange military pressure and competing demands, leaving diplomatic efforts to secure a broader peace agreement stalled.
