KATHMANDU: The National Assembly (NA) members have underlined the need for holding the House of Representatives election in a free and fair atmosphere.
They said the government must ensure adequate security for the free and fair HoR election scheduled for March 5.
The NA members stressed it while speaking at the NA meeting today. Speaking at the special hour of NA meeting, Gang Kumari Belbase of the Nepali Communist Party, said honest candidates deserve the votes so that they would help solve anomalies and problems like unemployment in the country.
She expressed concern over misuse of the national flag during election publicity and demanded action against those involved in it.
Rajendra Laxmi Gaire and Gopi Bahadur Sarki of the same political parties said national unity is imperative for prosperity. Election is the ultimate option to address the demands of the Gen-Z youths, they argued.
They also demanded the return of the seized weapons during the September uprising. The government was drawn attention towards increasing cases of human-wildlife conflicts and human casualties in the neighbourhood of the national parks.
The elephant menace rising in Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari and Udayapur districts was raised significantly by the NA members.
Tulasa Kumari Dahal urged the government to pay heed to health issues like measles and Rubella in Sarlahi district.
Maya Prasad Sharma expressed worry why the Jajarkot earthquake-hit people were not provided adequate hand-out.
Sharada Devi Bhatta demanded stringent action against those who drive under the influence of alcohol.
NA members from Nepali Congress’- Kiran Babu Shrestha and Narayan Datt Mishra- blamed the new political parties of maneuvering to wipe out the identity of parties with legacy. They urged the people not be swayed by false rumour. “Public awareness is needed on positive and negative parts of Gen Z movement,” Mishra viewed.
Gopal Bhattarai from UML urged the government to immediately return the looted weapons and taken under control the inmates fled during Gen Z protest so that HoR election would be safe and secure.
Two bills presented in NA
The NA meeting recorded presentations of two bills today.
The ‘legislation committee report on Film Bill 2081’ was presented by committee Chair Tulasa Kumari Dahal and the ‘annual report of the federalism strengthening and national concern committee’ by the committee Chair Sonam Geljen Sherpa.
The government was also urged by the NA members to update them on the progress made by the inquiry commission formed to investigate the human and physical loss during the September 8-9 Gen Z movement.
The NA will meet next at 1:15pm tomorrow.
