KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) president Rabi Lamichhane has been admitted to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj after an injury to his left leg developed into an infection, his office said.
According to Lamichhane’s secretariat, he sustained a minor injury to his left leg several days ago while attending a RSP public program in Janakpur. The injury later progressed into a skin infection that spread to the inner layers of the skin, a condition doctors identified as cellulitis.
Following medical examinations and advice, doctors recommended hospital admission, citing the potential risks associated with such infections. Lamichhane is currently under medical supervision and receiving treatment at the hospital, his personal secretary Avinash Acharya said.
Acharya said Lamichhane will remain inactive for several days and will resume political and organizational activities only after completing treatment and making a full recovery. “The injury itself is not serious, but doctors have advised caution due to the risk of the infection spreading,” he said.
Lamichhane’s office has also requested party members and well-wishers not to visit him at the hospital, citing concerns about disrupting other patients’ treatment and inconveniencing hospital administration.
Speculation about Lamichhane’s absence had circulated on social media in recent days after he was not seen at public events. His office said the hospitalization explains his absence and thanked supporters for their concern and good wishes.
In a formal statement, Lamichhane’s secretariat said the infection resulted from the injury sustained during a Janakpur program and reiterated that he would return to public life only after doctors confirm his recovery.
