KATHMANDU: The Rupandehi District Court has refused to immediately accept the amendment of charges in the cooperative fraud and organized crime case involving Rabi Lamichhane.
On January 14, Attorney General Sabita Bhandari decided to withdraw the charges of organized crime and money laundering through an indictment amendment.
However, the bench of District Judge Shyamlal Ghimire issued an order on January 20 to put the matter on hold.
The court noted that since writ petitions challenging the Attorney General’s decision have already been registered and are under consideration at the Supreme Court, no decision will be made until the higher court reaches a verdict.
“The matter should be presented as per rules once the Supreme Court concludes its decision regarding the interim order on the writ petitions,” the order stated.
Currently, three separate writ petitions have been filed at the Supreme Court against the Attorney General’s move to drop the charges.
The Supreme Court has already ordered the submission of the original documents and the attorney general’s decision for review.
