KATHMANDU: Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) (CPN-UML) chairman KP Sharma Oli on called for an urgent Supreme Court ruling on the reinstatement of parliament, citing the country’s ongoing constitutional crisis and raising questions about whether the scheduled March 5 elections would proceed as planned.

Speaking at an election-focused gathering organized by the Okhaldhunga–Kathmandu contact platform, Oli highlighted challenges in high-altitude and Himalayan regions, where he said voter turnout could be negligible due to sparse populations. “In areas with only a handful of voters, placing ballot boxes achieves little,” he said, emphasizing that election logistics would be nearly impossible in these regions.

Oli accused previous administrations of plunging the country into turmoil during the protests of September 8–9, 2025, and expressed concern over delays in the Supreme Court’s decision on parliament’s reinstatement. “The court must act immediately. Remaining silent in a constitutional crisis raises serious questions about the judiciary’s role,” he said, adding that his party would respect whatever ruling the court issues.

The CPN-UML chairman stressed the urgency of clarifying the legal and electoral framework before the elections. “The country cannot afford to wait. Citizens need clarity on whether the vote will take place or if parliament will be reinstated,” Oli said.
