LUMBINI: The ‘Third International Buddhist Conference’ will be held in Lumbini on April 29 and 30. A council meeting chaired by Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and Lumbini Development Trust Chair Anil Kumar Sinha on Thursday decided to organize the event.

The meeting also formed a 10-member ‘Main Ceremony Organizing Committee’ under the coordination of Trust Vice-Chairman Dr. Lharkyal Lama to ensure the conference’s successful and grand execution.

The government has allocated Rs 30 million for the conference in the current fiscal year. Initially planned for November, the event was rescheduled due to political and structural changes and will now coincide with Buddha Jayanti.

Conference Coordinator Dr Lama said the event aims to promote global peace, compassion, kindness, and universal brotherhood through Buddhist philosophy. The two-day conference will discuss themes including Buddha’s birthplace and heritage, environment and culture, and Buddhist education.

Buddhist scholars, spiritual leaders, distinguished guests, and prominent figures from more than 60 countries are expected to attend.

According to the Trust, the third edition will further enhance Lumbini’s international profile.
