KATHMANDU: Police have received permission to keep medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai in custody for four days. Kathmandu’s Chief District Officer Ishwar Raj Paudel granted approval for police to detain him for investigation.

Prasai, who is also the coordinator of the “Nation, Nationality, Religion, Culture and Citizen Protection Grand Campaign,” was arrested by police on Monday evening from his residence in Bhaktapur.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Pawan Kumar Bhattarai of the Kathmandu District Police Range, Prasai is being investigated on charges related to offenses against public peace.

Prasai, who has previously been arrested and released multiple times, was arrested again on Monday night. Earlier, he was detained on 6 February 2026 from Chalnakhel in Dakshinkali Municipality, Kathmandu, and was released on 8 February on bail. He was also arrested in Pokhara on 19 January 2026.

Police stated that Prasai was arrested after the Election Commission sent a letter to the District Police Office to investigate alleged violations of the election code of conduct and public security concerns. He has been accused of making statements aimed at disrupting the election process.
