KATHMANDU: The Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) has convened an emergency Secretariat meeting following the arrest of party chairman and former prime minister KP Sharma Oli.

Party Secretary Mahesh Basnet said the meeting is scheduled for 8:30 AM on Saturday, with senior leaders expected to discuss the Party’s response and future strategy.

Basnet accused the Balen Shah-led government of pursuing a path of political vendetta and bias, warning that the party would launch protest programs against what it calls unjust actions.

“The government has taken a politically prejudiced and retaliatory course. We will initiate struggle programs and decide on our next steps through the meeting,” he said.

Police arrested Oli from his residence in Gundhu early Saturday morning as part of an investigation into alleged crimes related to loss of life during the Gen Z protests.

The arrest of the UML chairman has intensified political tensions, with the party signaling strong resistance in the coming days.
