KATHMANDU: The government has decided to form a high-level investigation committee within a week to probe the incident that occurred on September 09, 2025.

The provision is included in point number 7 of the 100-point reform agenda approved by the Cabinet in its meeting on Friday. The committee will be tasked with collecting and analyzing all details related to the incident, identifying responsible parties, and submitting a report within a specified timeframe.

Based on the committee’s recommendations, the government has said it will initiate further necessary legal and administrative actions.

The decision follows a recommendation by a previous commission led by former judge Gauri Bahadur Karki, which had investigated the incidents of September 08 & 09, 2025. In its report, the commission suggested forming a separate mechanism to specifically investigate the events of September 09.

Acting on that recommendation, the government led by Prime Minister Balen Shah has moved forward with the new probe plan.

The move comes amid criticism that the government had focused only on investigating the crackdown, while neglecting a thorough probe into the events of the following day.
