KATHMANDU: A habeas corpus petition has been filed at the Supreme Court demanding the release of KP Sharma Oli, chairman of the CPN (UML) and former prime minister.

The petition was lodged on behalf of his wife, Radhika Shakya, claiming that Oli has been unlawfully arrested and detained.

The petition was registered today, and the hearing is scheduled to take place on Monday.

Oli was arrested on Saturday (March 28) along with former home minister and Nepali Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak, on charges of suppressing the Gen Z movement. The UML has termed their arrest “illegal” and politically motivated, stating that it will challenge the move both politically and legally.

Following his arrest, Oli has been kept at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital.
