KATHMANDU: At least two of the 20 Ugandan women arrested on March 25 in Kathmandu’s Thamel area for alleged indecent behavior and involvement in immoral activities have been deported, police said Sunday.
The women were detained near Fire Chowk in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-26 for reportedly harassing foreign and domestic tourists as well as male pedestrians through obscene conduct and solicitation.
Spokesperson for the District Police Range Kathmandu, Superintendent of Police Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, confirmed that two individuals have been deported, while the remaining are under surveillance.
Following their arrest, authorities extended the investigation period by 12 days. All 20 were later released on bail by the District Court on Sunday.
Police said they coordinated with the Ugandan embassy in Kathmandu after the arrests. While the embassy took responsibility for some individuals, those not claimed were handed over to immigration authorities and deported.
