KATHMANDU: The official X (formerly Twitter) accounts of Nepal News in both English and Nepali were hacked.

The compromised accounts include the Nepali-language account Nepal News (handle: @nepalnewsdotcom) and the English-language account Nepal News English (handle: @nepalnews_eng).

Nepal News has formally contacted the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police, and efforts to recover the accounts are currently underway.

According to the company, hackers altered the logos, cover images, and account details of the compromised profiles after gaining unauthorized access. Initial findings suggest the breach originated through a mobile phone used by a social media staff member, where administrative access to multiple platforms was stored.

Several associated social media accounts were also targeted, with some temporarily taken over by hackers. An internal audit and cyber review are ongoing to assess the extent of the damage.

Nepal News’ affiliated platforms, including The Business Nepal, Joy Nepal, Nepal News Radio and Nepal All, were among the accounts affected by the cyberattack. Recovery and restoration efforts remain in progress.
