BHAKTAPUR: Road Division Bhaktapur and contractors are working round-the-clock to resume traffic along the main under-construction roadside of the BP Highway’s Bhakundebesi–Nepalthok section by June 29 to prevent monsoon river diversion washouts.
The 29-km section, completely destroyed by floods on September 28–29, 2024, has been split into three construction packages: Bhakundebesi–Charsayabesi, Charsayabesi–Dalabesi and Dalabesi–Barkhe Khola.
Only 70 meters remain of the critical 230-meter Baksiguna section, which will be traffic-ready within five days.
Alongside these emergency repairs, the highway is being permanently upgraded from an intermediate lane to a standard, full two-lane road with a minimum width of 9 meters—featuring a 7-meter main dual lane and 1-meter paved shoulders on both sides—to accommodate high traffic volumes.
