JANAKPUR: The Janamat Party has changed its parliamentary party leader following an internal dispute over support to the Madhesh Province government.

Party chair Chandrakant (CK) Raut removed Mahesh Yadav from the post and appointed Chandan Kumar Singh as the new parliamentary party leader.

The move comes after the party decided to withdraw its support from the Madhes Province government. However, then leader Mahesh Yadav refused to sign the decision to withdraw support. Acting as chief whip, Singh sent a letter to the Office of the Provincial Chief informing the withdrawal.

In response, Yadav, in his capacity as parliamentary party leader, wrote separately to the Provincial Chief stating that the party’s support to the government remained intact.

Following the conflicting claims, Raut removed Yadav from the leadership position.

Out of the party’s 12 provincial assembly members, nine have backed Singh. Yadav currently serves as the Finance Minister in the provincial government.
