BEIJING: U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are set to meet on Friday as Trump concludes a two-day state visit focused on trade, diplomacy, and geopolitical tensions.

The visit marks the first by a U.S. president to China since 2017, with Trump seeking economic gains and political momentum ahead of key domestic elections.

Both sides discussed trade issues, including a fragile truce, agricultural purchases, Boeing aircraft deals, and possible expansion of non-sensitive goods trade worth about $30 billion. However, uncertainty remains over extending the tariff pause beyond this year.

Trump said China agreed to buy 200 Boeing jets, though the figure was below expectations and affected Boeing’s shares.

Tensions over Taiwan remained central, with Xi warning that mishandling the issue could damage bilateral relations, while the U.S. reaffirmed its unchanged policy on the island.

U.S. officials also said Trump raised the case of jailed Hong Kong media tycoon Jimmy Lai, while broader discussions touched on Iran, energy security, and global supply routes.
