KATHMANDU: Nepal is currently experiencing the combined impact of three distinct weather systems: western winds, local winds, and a low-pressure area situated near the eastern region.

This atmospheric setup has brought general cloud cover to Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, where light to moderate rainfall accompanied by active thunder and lightning is already hitting a few areas.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country’s hilly and mountainous terrains are seeing partly cloudy skies, while the southern Terai plains remain mostly clear for now.

As the day progresses, general cloud cover will persist over the high mountains and hills of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.

Light to moderate rain and snowfall are forecast for a few places within these regions, while one or two locations in the hills and mountains of Madhesh, Lumbini, and Karnali—as well as the Terai plains of Bagmati and Gandaki—should also prepare for brief rain.

In stark contrast to the wet weather hitting the rest of the country, the hilly and Terai terrains of Sudurpashchim and Lumbini provinces are expected to endure an exceptionally hot, dry day.

Tonight, the wet weather patterns will contract slightly but remain active across the country.

General cloud cover will hold steady over the northern high country of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki, while Madhesh Province and the Terai belts of Bagmati and Gandaki will experience partial cloud cover.

The western Terai plains are expected to clear out completely, but the Meteorological Forecasting Division warns that light to moderate rain, thunder, lightning, and high-altitude snowfall will continue through the night in a few areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki, along with isolated spots in Madhesh Province.
