KATHMANDU: A high-profile European Union delegation of 22 ambassadors and deputy heads of mission is concluding a crucial two-day diplomatic visit to Kathmandu today with a joint meeting with Prime Minister Balendra Shah at Singha Durbar.

The “Team Europe” delegation, led by EU Ambassador to Nepal Véronique Lorenzo, arrived yesterday to engage with the newly formed administration and reinforce bilateral alliances.

During the first leg of the mission yesterday, the delegation held high-level talks with Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal, where Nepal’s blacklisting from the EU Air Safety List took center stage.

Minister Khanal pointed to ongoing aviation reforms and formally requested the EU’s support in delisting Nepal, while outlining the new government’s focus on rapid economic growth, anti-corruption, and public service efficiency.

Khanal also invited European capital into high-priority sectors—including hydropower, infrastructure, tourism, and IT—and sought deeper cooperation on climate action and trade.

In response, Ambassador Lorenzo affirmed the EU’s solid support for the new government, offering European expertise in e-governance and digitalization.

Today’s culminating session with Prime Minister Shah, scheduled for 11:30 AM, will build on these discussions by focusing on Nepal’s national priorities, expanding trade and investment, and further strengthening long-standing bilateral ties.
