RASUWA: Police have arrested a 37-year-old man in Rasuwa district after intercepting an illegal stash of foreign currency worth 14,500 US dollars.
The suspect has been identified as Min Bahadur Magar, a permanent resident of Siddhicharan Municipality in Okhaldhunga district.
According to officials, a regular security and vehicle checkpoint set up by the district police along the Pasang Lhamu highway segment—located at Betrawati Bazar in Uttargaya Rural Municipality-5—led to the discovery.
Law enforcement officers intercepted a passenger bus en route from the capital, Kathmandu, toward the northern border town of Timure.
During a thorough search of the passengers and their belongings, security personnel uncovered the undeclared US dollar notes in Magar’s possession.
Possessing or transporting large sums of foreign currency without valid banking documentation or customs declaration is illegal under Nepal’s Foreign Exchange Regulation Act.
The suspect, along with the seized currency, has been taken into police custody for legal processing.
Authorities confirmed that further investigation into the origin and intended destination of the money is actively underway.
