KATHMANDU: For the first time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has call for applications for the appointment of ambassadors. According to the ministry, qualified and interested candidates can submit their applications by June 5 at 5:00 PM.

The ministry has outlined a 15-point qualification criteria for the position. Eligible candidates must be Nepali citizens aged 35 or above, hold at least a bachelor’s degree, and have no history of dismissal from government service that would disqualify them from future public employment. Additionally, applicants must not hold permanent or temporary residential permits (such as PR or Green Cards) or similar benefits from any foreign country.

Furthermore, candidates must not have been convicted by a court of law for corruption or any criminal offense involving moral turpitude. They are required to possess the capability to represent the nation effectively, backed by experience in Nepal’s foreign policy, international relations, and the dimensions of bilateral and multilateral diplomacy. Fluency in the English language and a clean financial record (not being blacklisted) are also among the mandatory prerequisites.

The ministry will publish a shortlist from the applications received. However, the specific countries designated for these ambassadorial postings have not been disclosed in the Terms of Reference (ToR) issued by the ministry.
