KATHMANDU: The Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) has concluded that the current government led by Balendra Shah is heading down an autocratic and totalitarian path.

Releasing its Intra-Party Instruction following a week-long Secretariat meeting, the UML accused the administration of weakening parliament, ruling via ordinances, suppressing independent media, and treating landless settlers inhumanely.

In response, the party announced plans to launch coordinated protest campaigns on both the streets and within parliament.

Concurrently, UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli termed the recent March election results “unnatural” and warning that the constitution and democracy are in peril, prompting the formation of a specialized task force led by Vice-Chairman Ram Bahadur Thapa to oversee party reorganization.

To revitalize its base ahead of upcoming local and provincial elections, the UML is launching a nationwide “Party Awakening Campaign” and has instructed all subordinate committees to complete membership renewals digitally by mid-June.

Key organizational appointments were also finalized, naming Niraj Acharya as the Head of the Publicity Department and Ram Kumari Jhankri as the In-charge of Press Chautari Nepal.

Furthermore, the party officially set its leadership hierarchy, establishing KP Sharma Oli as Chairman, followed by Vice-Chairmen Ram Bahadur Thapa, Bishnu Paudel, Prithvi Subba Gurung, Gokarna Bista, and Raghuji Panta, with Shankar Pokharel serving as General Secretary.
