KATHMANDU: The committee formed to investigate questions surrounding the share investments and sources of assets linked to former Home Minister Sudan Gurung has been granted an additional five days to complete its work.

The panel, led by former High Court judge Achyut Prasad Bhandari, received the extension from Tuesday after its initial mandate expired on Monday. Comptroller General Shobha Kant Paudel and Joint Attorney Achyut Mani Neupane serve as committee members.

Committee member Neupane said statements have been recorded and the examination of relevant facts has been completed. The panel is currently drafting its final report.

The Cabinet formed the committee on May 6 to investigate concerns raised over Gurung’s investments and assets. Gurung resigned on April 22, citing the need to avoid any conflict of interest after controversy emerged over his reported business partnership with Dipak Bhatta, who is under investigation in a money laundering and investment-source case.
