BIRGUNJ: Foodstuffs worth Rs 20.79 billion have been imported through the Birgunj border point in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year.

Compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year, the value of imports through this checkpoint in the current fiscal year has seen a decline of Rs 3.87 billion, or 15 percent, informed Udaya Singh Bista, Information Officer at the Birgunj Customs Office.

In the 10 months of the previous fiscal year, 16 varieties of food items worth Rs 24.66 billion were imported through here.

In the current fiscal year, paddy worth Rs 10.94 billion, maize worth Rs 5.31 billion, and rice worth Rs 2.85 billion have been imported.

Similarly, malt worth Rs 59 million and buckwheat, millet, and other foodstuffs equivalent to the value of Rs 33 million were imported, Information Officer Bista informed.
