POKHARA: A shortage of blood has occurred in Pokhara.

The Regional Blood Transfusion Service, Pokhara, under the Nepal Red Cross Society Kaski, has stated that because the stock of ‘AB Positive’ group blood is running low, a situation is arising where they cannot meet the demand.

Head of Blood Transfusion Service Arjun Gyawali said that since no regular blood donation programs are scheduled from June 2 to June 6, a shortage of blood could occur during this interval, prompting an appeal to everyone for emergency blood donations.

“Keeping in mind the potential blood shortage, we have requested various organizations, clubs, mothers’ groups, cooperative institutions, and social groups to organize emergency blood donation programs.

Please donate blood with the sentiment that a small effort can save someone’s life. Because the demand for blood is high here, there must be programs almost regularly,” he said.

Since Pokhara is also the provincial capital, patients are referred here from other districts as well, keeping the demand for blood high.

According to the Regional Blood Transfusion Service, 70 to 80 units of blood are required daily in Pokhara.
