KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal is scheduled to visit India shortly after Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane returns to Nepal on June 5.
Minister Khanal’s trip, which has been rescheduled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs following a previous postponement, comes at the invitation of Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to strengthen bilateral development cooperation.
The exact itinerary is currently being finalized in coordination with the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.
This diplomatic follow-up comes in the wake of significant high-level discussions in New Delhi, where Chairman Lamichhane met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar, and BJP leader Nitin Nabin.
During an hour-long meeting, Prime Minister Modi expressed a strong commitment to cooperating with the current Nepali government, urging Nepal to prioritize projects in key sectors such as hydropower, airport infrastructure, and boundary issues.
Minister Khanal’s upcoming visit aims to operationalize these discussions, utilizing a structured checklist to advance pending and mutually beneficial bilateral initiatives through ministerial and bureaucratic channels.
