KATHMANDU: The corridor road along the right bank of the Bishnumati River in the Bhim Mukteshwar area of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-13 has been fully blacktopped and brought into operation, improving connectivity between Kalimati, Kuleshwor, and Balkhu.
While only the section leading towards Teku had previously been paved, the corridor has now been extended and blacktopped from Kalimati Bridge through Kuleshwor to Balkhu. The road expansion was carried out after the removal of unauthorized huts and makeshift structures on the riverside near Kalimati Bridge.
The area, which until recently was occupied by an unmanaged settlement, now presents a more open and organized landscape. The government had cleared the riverside settlement citing the risk of flooding during the monsoon season, paving the way for the corridor expansion project.
With the newly completed road now in use, motorists can bypass the frequently congested Kalimati Chowk and travel directly to Kuleshwor and Balkhu through the corridor route. The project has also improved mobility for residents of the Bhim Mukteshwar area in Ward No. 13.
Locals say the corridor has made commuting easier, particularly for those travelling towards Lalitpur via the Bagmati River bridge. Authorities expect the expanded corridor and improved traffic management in the area to help ease daily traffic congestion and enhance overall road connectivity in the western part of the capital.
