KATHMANDU:  DeerHack, one of Nepal’s leading student-led hackathons, is returning for its fourth edition from June 12 to 14 at the Deerwalk Complex in Kathmandu, bringing together young innovators from Nepal and India.

Launched in 2023, the hackathon has grown into a vibrant platform for students, developers, designers, and aspiring entrepreneurs to turn ideas into practical technology-driven solutions. Organizers say DeerHack has so far attracted more than 4,000 applicants, formed over 250 teams, and produced more than 250 projects in areas including artificial intelligence, education, entrepreneurship, environmental awareness, and social impact.

Past projects include Ban Rakshak, a system that uses sound sensors installed on trees to detect heavy machinery linked to illegal deforestation and alert authorities. Another project, Reasonet, helps early-stage founders test, refine, and communicate startup ideas.

This year’s featured theme is environmental sustainability, but participants are free to develop solutions across any field, from software and AI to social impact and entrepreneurship. The three-day event will include hack sessions, mentorship, workshops, and project showcases.

With participants from nearly all regions of Nepal and students from India, DeerHack 2026 aims to expand regional collaboration while building a globally connected innovation community for young problem-solvers seeking real-world impact and wider exposure.
