Seven held in Kathmandu for foreign employment fraud

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested seven individuals from different parts of the Kathmandu Valley on charges of defrauding job seekers by promising overseas employment and collecting millions of rupees from them.

According to Superintendent of Police Surat Kumar Thapa Chhetri, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, the suspects allegedly took money from victims with promises of jobs in countries including Greece, Croatia, Serbia, the United Kingdom, Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates, but failed to send them abroad and later went out of contact.

The arrested individuals are Santosh Adhikari of Arghakhanchi, Hemanta KC of Dang, Sukadev Rai and Manish Podar of Sunsari, Mir Islamana of Rautahat, Amrit Adhikari of Kaski, and Ramratan Mishra of Rupandehi.

Police said the suspects collectively swindled several Rs million money from foreign employment aspirants. They have been handed over to the Department of Foreign Employment in Tahachal for further investigation and legal action.
