NEPSE declines along with trading turnover; Negative circuit hit on Bungal Hydro

KATHMANDU – On Tuesday, the second trading day of the week, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index witnessed a double-digit decline. Following a volatile session throughout the day, the benchmark index ultimately shed 26.16 points. The daily trading turnover also contracted compared to the previous trading day.

The NEPSE index fell by 0.96% against the prior session to close at 2,674.48 points. On Monday, the index had ticked down marginally by 1.46 points.

Similarly, the Sensitive Index, which tracks the performance of class ‘A’ companies, dropped by 2.31 points (0.50%) to close at 461.48 points. The Float Index and the Sensitive Float Index also registered declines of 0.88% and 0.56% respectively.

During Tuesday’s session, a total of 10,040,164 shares changed hands through 72,854 transactions across 353 listed companies. According to the data, a turnover of NPR 4,362,194,771 was recorded on Tuesday, compared to Monday’s turnover of Rs 4,446,520,247.

In terms of market breadth, only 22 companies advanced, while the share prices of 239 companies declined, and 11 remained unchanged. Out of the 13 trading sectors, 12 closed in the red, leaving the Mutual Fund sub-index as the sole gainer of the day.

According to Tuesday’s breakdown, the sub-indices for Commercial Banks fell by 0.29%, Development Banks by 0.43%, Finance by 1.28%, Hotels & Tourism by 1.11%, Hydro Power by 1.63%, Investment by 1.03%, Life Insurance by 0.85%, Manufacturing & Processing by 1.92%, and Microfinance by 0.69%. Meanwhile, the Mutual Fund sub-index gained 0.45%, while Non-Life Insurance dropped by 1.01%, Others by 0.67%, and the Trade sub-index declined by 1.57%.

Investors in Taksar Pikhuwakhola Hydropower Company Limited and Yambaling Hydropower Limited emerged as the top gainers, with their share prices surging by 14.99%. On the flip side, investors in Bungal Hydro Company Limited suffered the heaviest loss, with its share price plunging by 15.00%, triggering a negative circuit break.

Ankhu Khola Jalvidhyut Limited topped the market on Tuesday in terms of financial turnover, recording transactions worth Rs 341,629,884.

Ankhu Khola Jalvidhyut Limited also led the market in terms of the volume of shares traded, with 913,650 shares changing hands. Its Last Traded Price (LTP) stood at Rs 368 per share.
