KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office has arrested a 41-year-old man, Ramdas Maharjan of Chandragiri Municipality-8, Kathmandu, for allegedly defrauding foreign employment aspirants under the pretext of sending them to the UAE.
Maharjan was apprehended from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-14 on Sunday after collecting a total of Rs 4.5 million from seven individuals and subsequently going on the run, according to Superintendent of Police Rameshwar Karki, spokesperson for the office.
In a similar operation, police arrested 34-year-old Santoshi Lama, originally from Chhatredeurali, Dhading, and currently residing in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-16. Lama is accused of swindling Rs 1.5 million from an individual by falsely promising to secure them employment in Spain.
Additionally, police have tracked down and arrested Mani Niraula of Biratnagar Metropolitan City-10, who was at large in connection with a banking offense case. Niraula was arrested from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-12 regarding a Rs 2.5 million banking offense case registered at the Police Circle, Singha Durbar. Authorities noted that Niraula also faces a separate foreign employment fraud charge for allegedly swindling an additional Rs 1.7 million.
