KATHMANDU: Minister for Information and Communications, Bikram Timilsina, has stated that no one can violate press freedom.

Speaking on Sunday at a program titled “Press Freedom in Changing Situations: Communication Law and Responsible Journalism,” organized by the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) in Lalitpur, he clarified that the government has no intention of shrinking the space for press freedom.

He emphasized that the government is fully aware that press freedom is the foundational pillar of democracy.

He argued that if the government has failed to grant constitutional rights or obstructed their implementation, there are various constitutional and legal provisions within the country to address such issues.

He added that the government is ready to engage in discussions with journalists if dialogue is needed on any matter.

Minister Timilsina further asserted that if the government becomes irresponsible, raising questions about it is the greatest responsibility of journalists.
