ANKARA: US President Donald Trump declared the ceasefire with Iran “over” after both countries exchanged fresh strikes at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit in Turkey today, stating that further negotiations would be a waste of time.
The United States said it struck more than 80 Iranian targets following attacks on three oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, while Iran said it targeted US military sites in Bahrain and Kuwait in response.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte supported Trump and accused Iran of violating the ceasefire, while Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf blamed Washington for breaching the truce.
The two countries had signed a 14-page memorandum of understanding last month to extend the ceasefire and end the conflict.
