KATHMANDU: Leaders from the rival (non-establishment) faction of the Nepali Congress have demanded that party unity be made the top priority ahead of the upcoming regular general convention.
Speaking on the third day of a crucial factional meeting in Kathmandu, representatives urged leadership to resolve active membership disputes through consensus or immediately begin exploring alternative political strategies.
Faction leader Min Bishwakarma reported that central committee members, provincial general secretaries, and district presidents overwhelmingly agreed that updating membership records by mutual agreement is the only way to clear a smooth path forward for the party’s convention.
Beyond internal party friction, attendees also raised serious concerns over external national issues.
The meeting included intense discussions regarding growing challenges to Nepal’s democratic system, the erosion of the rule of law, the independence of constitutional bodies, and the weakening role of parliament.
