JANAKPURDHAM: The obstruction in the Madhesh Province Assembly by opposition parties, who had been demanding a rewrite of the budget for the fiscal year 2026/27, has ended.
The deadlock was resolved starting today after an agreement to form a joint task force was reached during an all-party meeting between the ruling and opposition parties. In the Assembly meeting, the Speaker announced the formation of the task force to address the issues regarding the fiscal year 2026/27 budget and other related problems. The Speaker also stated that the task force will begin its work today and will draft its own procedures.
The members of the newly formed task force include Upendra Mahato, Harinarayan Mahato, Jangilal Raya, Pramod Kumar Yadav, Sanjay Kumar Yadav, Bimala Ansari, and Sarita Kumari Thakur.
Following the formation of the task force, the opposition parties withdrew their protests, allowing the assembly proceedings to resume. With the obstruction cleared, Finance Minister Yubraj Bhattarai presented the Appropriation Bill, 2026, to the Province Assembly.
