KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has urged the public to adopt necessary precautions, as there is a possibility of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in various parts of the country today.
According to department meteorologist Sanjeev Adhikari, monsoon winds currently influence the entire country.
As the monsoon low-pressure line is positioned slightly above its normal position near the Nepal Terai region in the west, and near its normal position in the east, significant rainfall is expected over the next three days.
The department stated that there is a possibility of heavy rainfall in a few places and very heavy rainfall in one or two places within the hilly and Terai regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces today.
Heavy rainfall is also forecast for one or two places in Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.
According to the department, the potential rainfall increases the risk of debris flow, floods, landslides, and soil erosion, requiring residents in affected areas to take special precautions.
Since this weather pattern could impact daily life, agriculture, health, tourism, mountaineering, as well as road and air transport, the department has urged everyone to regularly follow its latest weather updates.
This afternoon, the weather will remain generally to fully cloudy across the country.
There is a possibility of moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in most of the hilly and Terai regions, while the department noted that some mountainous areas may experience snowfall alongside rain.
Tonight, the weather will remain cloudy in most parts of the country, with a continued chance of rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in most areas of the hilly and Terai regions.
The department has requested high alertness as one or two places in the hilly and Terai regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpashchim provinces could experience very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.
