KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Food Safety is advancing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with state-owned Nepal Aushadhi Limited to scale up its production from 11 to 36 types of essential medicines within two years.

The expansion will include treatments for chronic conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes.

To support this initiative, the Ministry will fast-track research, quality testing, and licensing while allocating the necessary budget to prioritize domestic procurement for government health institutions.

Once finalized, the institutional procurement system will streamline medicine supplies for public hospitals, guaranteeing a steady market for Nepal Aushadhi Limited.

The Ministry assured that all products will meet strict national and international quality standards.

This initiative aligns with the government’s long-term strategy to promote the domestic pharmaceutical industry, decrease heavy reliance on imports, and ensure citizens have continuous access to affordable, high-quality healthcare.
