KATHMANDU: Recent heavy rains have led to significant disruptions on major highways and road sections across the country due to landslides and erosion.

The BP Highway, which connects Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli, has been closed to night driving, while the Khurkot-Nepalthok-Katunjebensi road section has imposed a vehicle ban from 6:00 PM to 4:00 AM due to flood risks.

Similarly, the Kanti Highway has restricted all vehicle movement from 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM until further notice. The Mechi Highway in Ilam Municipality has been completely blocked by mud accumulation, and landslides have obstructed the Arani Highway in Sindhupalchok, affecting access to Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality.

Additionally, the Lamasanghu-Ramechhap highway has experienced transport disruptions due to erosion from the Tamakoshi River, with an alternative route established through the Khimti Rural Electricity Cooperative premises.

The Trishuli-Mailung-Safrubensi unpaved road has also been blocked by landslides, and the Jomsom-Korla road is impassable due to rising water levels in the Ghyakar River.

Local authorities and the road department are actively working to restore access on these affected routes.
