Gold price jumps Rs 18,400 per tola in week after budget announcement

KATHMANDU: The price of fine gold in the domestic market has increased by Rs 18,400 per tola (11.66 grams) in the week following the government’s presentation of the fiscal year 2026/27 budget, according to the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association.

Gold was traded at Rs 290,600 per tola on May 30, the day the budget was unveiled. The price then surged by Rs 20,500 per tola the following day to reach Rs 311,100 per tola, marking one of the sharpest single-day increases in recent months.

Gold prices fluctuated throughout the week, falling to Rs 310,900 per tola on June 1, rising to Rs 311,300 per tola on June 2, remaining unchanged on June 3, and slipping to Rs 311,100 per tola on June 4.

On June 5, the price declined by Rs 2,100 per tola to close at Rs 309,000 per tola. Despite the late-week correction, gold prices remained significantly higher than their level at the time of the budget announcement.
