KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index declined on Monday along with the total transaction amount. Compared to the previous trading day, the NEPSE index fell by 5.80 points, closing at 2,560 points.
At the beginning of the trading session, the market had shown a positive trend, with the NEPSE reaching a high of 2,576 points at 11:37 AM. However, the market began to decline afterward, hitting an intraday low of 2,544 points at 2:31 PM. The index recovered slightly after 1:30 PM. On the previous day, NEPSE had dropped by 30 points.
During today’s trading, the prices of 91 companies increased, 151 declined, and 11 remained unchanged. Among the sectoral indices, Hotels and Tourism gained 1.64%, Trading rose 0.55%, and Investment increased 0.10%. All other sectors saw declines.
The total trading amount also fell — from Rs. 4.90 billion on the previous day to Rs. 4.51 billion today.
Sector-wise, Banking fell by 0.60%, Development Bank by 0.63%, Finance by 0.75%, Hydropower by 0.10%, Life Insurance by 0.26%, Manufacturing and Processing by 0.30%, Microfinance by 0.08%, Non-life Insurance by 0.41%, and Others by 0.29%.
Five companies saw their share prices surge by 10% — Daramkhola Hydro Energy, Sagar Distillery, Mabilung Energy, and City Hotel among them. Except for City Hotel, all are newly listed companies.
Meanwhile, Unnati Sahakarya Laghubitta’s share price dropped by 10%, followed by Ruru Hydropower (-8.45%), Dhaulagiri Laghubitta (-5.66%), and Upakar Laghubitta (-5.63%).
The most actively traded companies of the day were NRN Infrastructure, Union Hydropower, Siddhartha Bank Debenture 2089, Radhi Hydropower, and Shivam Cement.
