LALITPUR: Continuous heavy rainfall caused a section of the road to collapse in Mahalaxmisthan, Lalitpur, creating a hazardous situation for nearby structures.
The road caved in on Monday in Mahalaxmi Municipality-3, Mahalaxmisthan, narrowly averting a major disaster.
The collapse has placed nearby businesses—including a furniture shop, a cafe, and a grocery store—at high risk.
Due to a weak supporting retaining wall, the edge of the road gave way, sending soil and debris crashing toward the adjacent furniture shop.
Six people were inside the furniture shop when the road caved in. They managed to flee to safety after hearing a loud crash from outside.
The furniture shop owner stated that four iron support pillars installed inside the shop helped hold back the collapsed wall and falling earth, preventing a catastrophic structural failure.
Some of the iron pillars can be seen bent under the immense pressure of the caved-in road, illustrating the severity of the collapse.
