KATHMANDU: The United National Landless Settlers’ Front staged a protest rally on Sunday at Maitighar in Kathmandu, condemning the government for evicting landless settlers without providing proper management or alternative housing.

The demonstration comes amid rising tensions following a series of troubling events on Saturday.

According to protest organizers, anger peaked after floodwaters entered the Kirtipur holding center on Saturday morning, displacing the residents sheltered there.

The situation escalated further later that evening following the arrest of a Gen Z activist who was advocating for the landless settlers.

Demonstrators at Maitighar chanted slogans strongly condemning the police action, calling the arrest extrajudicial and demanding the activist’s immediate release.

The United National Landless Settlers’ Front has warned that it will continue its movement until the government stops arbitrary evictions and ensures fair, secure management for all affected families.
