KATHMANDU: In connection with the death of a detainee in the custody cell of the Area Police Office in Khurkot, Sindhuli, action has been recommended against 10 police personnel ranging from the Superintendent of Police (SP) to a police constable.

The recommendation for disciplinary action was made by an investigation committee led by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Dinesh Kumar Acharya.

The committee was formed to probe the death of 23-year-old Shree Krishna BK, a resident of Jumlidanda in Sunkoshi Rural Municipality-3, Sindhuli, who died while in police custody.

According to the Central Police News Desk, the committee has recommended a caution for one officer, a formal attention-drawing notice for two others, and removal from their responsibilities alongside a warning for five personnel.

Additionally, the committee has advised a letter of censure (admonishment) for one individual and a grade demotion for another.

Furthermore, the investigation committee has suggested prioritizing the safety of individuals in custody, ensuring the full implementation of the Custody Management Directive, 2024.

It also emphasized that personnel should not engage in unrelated tasks during their duty hours and stressed the need to maintain regular surveillance.
