KAVRE: Nepal Police have arrested a 45-year-old man in Kavrepalanchok district for pretending to be a plainclothes police investigator to swindle and extort money from unsuspecting citizens.
According to Police, the suspect has been identified as Roj Bahadur Tamang, a permanent resident of Temal Rural Municipality-8 in Kavre.
The arrest was made after police received complaints regarding a man operating in the area who was introducing himself as an officer from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Utilizing this fake identity, the suspect had been threatening locals and demanding money under various pretexts.
Acting on a tip-off, a police deployment caught Tamang red-handed while he was actively engaged in an extortion attempt. He was immediately taken into police custody for legal processing.
