KATHMANDU: A British rapper has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for causing the death of 20-year-old Nepali student Yubin Tamang in a hit-and-run collision in northeast London. The judgment was delivered at the Old Bailey after the 41-year-old artist pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and to an additional count of dangerous driving.
The court heard that Tamang was struck in the early hours of 18 October 2025 on Redbridge Lane East in Ilford and died in hospital two days later. Prosecutors said the driver had been drinking, was about one and a half times over the legal alcohol limit, ran red lights, and drove at more than 60 miles per hour in a 30 zone before the crash. He failed to stop after the collision.
An Uber driver who passed the scene initially thought the victim was debris on the road before realizing he was seriously injured and alerting emergency services. Police later linked a broken wing mirror found at the scene to the driver’s BMW M5, which was discovered near his home in Woodford Green with heavy front-end damage.
In a statement read in court, Tamang’s family said, “We speak today with hearts broken beyond repair. Our only child, a precious soul, has been taken from us far too soon.”
The case has drawn significant attention in Britain and internationally, highlighting the grave consequences of dangerous and drunk driving.
